The trigram associated with this pumsae represents the Earth. Also, there is a representation of North and Mother. The associated trigram of this pumsae is Yin. Yin, here, represents the end of the beginning, the evil part of all that is good. This being the last of the pumsae Taegeuk, it represents the end of the circle and the cyclic nature of the Earth.

Promotion Test (1st Geup -> 1st Dan/Poom):
- At least 5 months elapsed since the last promotion
- For “Dan” Status instead of “Poom”, the candidate must be 15 or older
- Perform 4 poomsae between TaeGeuk 1 ~ 7 Jang
- Must Perform TaeGeuk 8 Jang
- Front Kick (Low-Mid-High) / Roundhouse Kick (Low-Mid-High) / Side Kick (Low-Mid-High) / Straight Back Kick (Mid-High) / Hook Kick (Mid-High) / Spinning Hook Kick (Mid)
- 2 minutes of Olympic sparring

Using 1″ X 12″ X 10″ boards perform one hand break, one stationary kicking break (
ie.: front, side, back kick) and one spinning Hook Kick (Mid) Break. All single station, not a 3 station break. Each board must be held higher than the practitioner’s waist line. (Up to 2nd Try)
- Written essay: Benefits of Taekwondo on personal life or What Taekwondo means to you? (minimum 3 pages)
After a successful test, the student will receive Kukkiwon issued 1st Dan/Poom Certificate
